Founded in 2013, BlacklistLA Run Organization aims to connect people through community, art and running. Together with a team of volunteers, BlacklistLA provides a safe, energetic environment that empowers people to discover the great city of Los Angeles in ways never done before. From weekly running events, a training program (Project 42/42) and a sanctioned race (HBD LA 5K), BlacklistLA is intent on making Los Angeles a better place. All donations and funding directly contribute to making that dream come true.
BlacklistLA’s weekly events are highlighted by a Monday night art run, where on average, over 300 runners gather at 10pm and run to street art displayed around the city’s streets. Each Wednesday evening, with Metro Run, BlacklistLA uses public transit to discover the city alternatively. Saturday mornings are home to BlacklistLA’s long runs, ranging from 8 miles and up, this was designed for runners to end the week off on a high note.
In 2016, BlacklistLA started Project 42/42, a complimentary training program for runners to complete races throughout the year. Spanning 36 weeks and led by BlacklistLA’s volunteer pacers, the program is designed to guide runners towards completing the LA Marathon, a half marathon and BlacklistLA’s own, HBD LA 5K.
The HBD (Happy Birthday) LA 5K, established in 2015, was founded to celebrate the birth of Los Angeles on September 4th. Held at La Plaza de Olvera, the location where Los Angeles was declared a city 1781, the inaugural race brought in over 500 participants. As the first known event to celebrate the birth of this LA, the race is sure to thrive for years to come, and will make certain that September 4th will be a date to save.
None of BlacklistLA’s events and initiatives would be possible without the team of volunteers that dedicate their time to making this vision come true. From the organizers, the pacers leading the running events, photographers and race day volunteers, the team is always growing as our dream expands.
As the largest run organization of its kind, BlacklistLA has plans to forever change the landscape of running in Los Angeles. Whether through art, alternative transportation or training programs, the goal is to connect the community in new ways. From Downtown to Koreatown, Hollywood to Mid Wilshire, Culver City to Echo Park, there’s millions of stories out there and we are intent on bringing them all together. Are you in or nah?
OUR MISSION: To engage the Los Angeles community in exciting athletic events that foster movement, local discovery, cultural awareness, and civic pride.
